Code of Conduct
Bay State Fencers is open to anyone
interested in participating in the Olympic sport of fencing. However,
participation at Bay State Fencers is a privilege, not a right.
Along with this privilege come certain expectations of behavior
by fencers, guests and staff as define by this Code of Conduct.
- No Discrimination: Fencers, guests and the staff of Bay
State Fencers are expected to treat other fencers, guests and
staff at all times and in all respects in a manner free from
discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion,
gender or sexual orientation.
- Physical Safety: Fencers are expected to exercise control
of their actions and demeanor at all times and to exercise good
judgment by fencing appropriately for the age, size and experience
level of their opponents.
- Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship is expected from
all fencers at all times. Fencers are expected to conduct themselves
in a respectful and courteous manner. Fencers are expected to
salute their opponent and the referee before and after each bout
and to shake hands with their opponent after each bout in a sportsmanlike
manner.
- Payments: Fencers and guests are expected to promptly
pay all membership fees, lesson fees, floor fees, equipment costs
and all other amounts when due.
- Equipment: Fencers are expected to keep all equipment
owned by them in safe working order, and are responsible for
the suitability and condition of that equipment at all times.
Fencers using Bay State Fencers equipment are expected to not
use any equipment that appears to be damaged or unsafe and to
give such equipment to a coach.
- Club activities: All activities at Bay State Fencers
must be treated with respect by fencers and guests. Families,
friends and visitors must not interrupt or disrupt any ongoing
activity or coach. No children under age six (6) are permitted
on the fencing floor.
- Tournament Conduct: Members attending tournaments represent
Bay State Fencers to the wider fencing community. Members are
bound by the rules of fencing and by the USFA and USOC Codes
of Conduct regardless of whether it is a local, regional, national
or international competition. Any fencer representing Bay State
Fencers who breeches the rules and/or codes of conduct is subject
to disciplinary action.
- Ejection: If at any time a fencer or guest threatens
the safety of the other fencers, guests or coaches a staff member
may immediately escort the threatening individual from the Bay
State Fencers premises.
- REVOCATION OF PRIVILEDGES:
Bay State Fencers reserves
the right to suspend or revoke membership or use privileges of
any person whom the staff finds has violated this code of conduct.
