Protective Gear
weaponsFencers of all ages are required to wear proper fencing attire to all Bay State Fencers training programs, open fencing and for all competitions. To maintain our record of safety and to adhere to the guidelines of our insurance policy, the following protective wear is required.

Fencing Gear for Learn to Fence
Fencers must wear full-length sweatpants (NO front pockets), t-shirt and fencing appropriate shoes (fencing, tennis, or court shoes). Bay State Fencers will provide fencing uniform and equipment for duration of Learn to Fence Program.

Fencing Gear for Kids, Youth, Junior and Adult Classes
All Fencers must own their own Mask and Fencing Glove.
Bay State Fencers recommends Fencers own the following:

  • Jacket
  • Underarm protector (plasteron)
  • Chest protector (mandatory for girls/women; optional for boys/men)

Fencing Gear for Competitive Programs
Fencers must be dressed in full protective fencing gear every time they participate in bouts, drills or competitions. Each coach will determine if the student needs full or partial protective attire for private lessons. A fencer who is not wearing appropriate protective fencing attire will not be allowed to participate in training sessions.

  • Knee-length socks
  • Fencing/tennis or court shoes

Behavior on the Fencing Floor
As with any sport, cooperation with rules and direction from the coaches is imperative for a fun and sale experience for everyone.
Fencers who cannot follow club rules (including dress code) will not be allowed to fence.
